Zimbabwe Trip

About a month ago we did a trip up to Zim land. Half work half play.

It was great! Interesting, eye opening and very sad all at the same time.

Our trip started from Maputo to Malelane. We crossed through the Kruger National Park to Tzaneen. And no, once again we saw NO lions. Well, when we finally got to Tzaneen it was already dark and late. We found accommodation, but was a little worried when we saw it. It looked like farm workers houses. But was very surprised to see it inside. Very nice and the area was so quiet and peaceful.

Then we carried onto Zim the next day.
The border between SA and Zim is a complete mess!!! Very very big border, and what seems to be complete chaos. But, as we once again found, the SA side was worse than the Zim side. In the sense of being harassed. Perhaps cause we drive a car with Mozambique number plates...? Who knows? Still, they where very abusive towards us. Then coming to the Zim side, it was chaos, but at least we had no hassle's. It took all in all 3 hours to cross, but we got there in one piece. Your first reality check is all the beggars at the border. You can not walk 10m without someone asking you for money or food.

Well, finally the next day we made it to Harare. It looks so much like SA. It really is a beautiful country. And the city is big and nice looking. We stayed there for a couple of days. The kids enjoyed painting and running around outside.

Then for the weekend we moved on to Victoria falls. The fun stuff. Well, fun for Jair and me, the kids...not so much. With the rain they had recently the river was very full. This caused there to me a lot of 'mist' from the falls. Well, mist my foot! It was just pouring with rain!!! We had raincoats, but some people just braved it with not much on. And they where soaked from head to to. We could actually not see much of the actual falls because there was so much mist. But, none the less, it was beautiful and a wonderful sight to behold. God really is awesome. His nature is just a glimpse into his 'personality' (for lack of a better word) If earth is so spectacular, and you imagine what heaven is going to be like...?

For those of you who would like to learn more about Vic falls, check this website out.

Okey well. Finishing the Victoria falls, we carried onto Pretoria through Botswana. The less said about Botswana the better... Just one note. While travelling we saw some elephants next to the side of the road. Wow, this is great we thought. We can travel through a park and see some animals on our trip there. Just to find out later that it was not actually a park. The elephants just roam around free. Yikes!

Well, enough talking. Check out our photos. There are lots, so go make yourself a cup of tea, and make sure you have nothing else to do for about an hour... Enjoy!

PS. Thanks Elmer for the tip about photographing the stars. I took a great shot of the moon and the stars. Yeah!
